Cat In The Hat Bulletin Board

I just had to post a picture of my Cat In The Hat bulletin board.  I love the craft that the students made and how different each one looks.  I especially like how my Thing 1 and Thing 2 turned out.  They are just so cute!

Smelling Sensory Jars

This week our theme is the 5 senses. I put together this set of sensory jars for the children to use their sense of smell.
When my co-teacher and I moved in to our new classroom this year we found these awesome containers hidden in a cabinet.

Unfortunately I can't tell you where to get them or even who makes them. There are no markings on them, except on the bag it says customized sensory cups. I have scoured the Internet to find them, but have had no luck. You can easily make your own with empty spice jars or prescription containers. Just be careful when punching the holes in the lids.

Inside the jars I put cocoa, lemon, peppermint essential oil, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and a flowery lotion. I also had two stinky jars. One was stinky socks that had vinegar and a little minced onion in it. The second was skunk that I left empty. You can bet the preschoolers definitely smelled it though! I put everything on cotton balls so none of the liquid or spices came out of the holes if someone decided to shake a cup.

Next I took one of our sorting trays and put a picture of each scent. The kids really enjoyed smelling each one and guessing where it should go on the tray.

I hope this post was helpful in making your own smelly jars!

Our Class is Shamrockin'

One of my absolute favorite things to do is decorate the outside of our classroom door.  I try to make it as simple as possible to make, but also make a big impact.  This month was all about the shamrocks!
